K2 Concordia trek is in the Karakoram mountain range of Gilgit Baltistan, . K2 (8611m), the second-highest mountain in the world, is also known as the savage mountain of the Karakoram. Trekking on Baltoro and Godwin-Austin Glaciers to the foothills of this magnificent mountain and Concordia is an absolute classic trek. For its unique location, Concordia is known as the heart of the Karakoram mountain range and earned the nickname “The Throne Room of the Mountain Gods”. For many years Trango Adventure has been organizing the K2 Concordia trek, along with other adventure holidays in Pakistan. The K2 Concordia trek begins from Islamabad, the purpose-built capital city of Pakistan. Arrive at Islamabad Airport, where you will be picked up by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Islamabad. The rest of the day in Islamabad is free to recover from your journey. We will meet over dinner to give you a detailed briefing about your K2 Concordia trek. Night stay in Islamabad, and the next morning take a spectacular mountain view flight from Islamabad to Skardu. You will see K2, Nanga Parbat, and other famous Karakoram peaks from the aeroplane.
Skardu is the capital of the Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is the getaway to the K2 base camp trek, the K2 and Gondogoro La Trek, Broad Peak, and Masherbrum mountains. After two full days in Skardu, you will take a Jeep ride along the Indus and Braldu river to Askole village via Shigar Valley. Askole is the last village of the valley before you start trekking into central Karakoram National Park and the wilderness of The Karakoram Mountains. Here you will meet the rest of the crew and porters who will be looking after you during your K2 Concordia trek. There are no hotels from here onwards, so you will be sleeping in your sleeping bags in a tent for the next few nights. After a short break in Askole, you will drive to Johla camp for a night’s stay.
Askole is the last village in the valley, and in the past, we had to spend the night here. In 2021 the road from Skardu to Askole was expanded to Johla camp. So, now instead of spending the night in Askole, we drive to Johla which saves two days of trekking.
The walking session of your K2 Concordia trek begins from Johla. Jhola camp lies along the Braldu River near the wooden footbridge. There is a small stream running down, a perfect place to cool your feet and enjoy the mountain scenery.
Wake up to the breathtaking sunrise view over the Karakoram mountains, have your breakfast, and start walking towards Paiju camp. The first trekking day is a long and beautiful day with breathtaking mountain views, a perfect introduction to The Karakoram Mountains. You will arrive at Paiju camp in the afternoon, have your lunch and enjoy a free afternoon to relax. Trek to Paiju camp (3,420 m) by following the Braldu gorge to the junction of the Panma River to cross the fast-flowing river by a footbridge.
It is a seven-hour walk, a full trekking day with spectacular views of Paiju Peak. Paiju camp is one of the busiest campsites, as all trekking and climbing Expedtion groups stop here to use the cleaning and washing facilities set up by the Tourism Department of Pakistan You will have a free afternoon at Paiju to get a rest and acclimatize to the high-altitude environment.
Today, you will be introduced to Baltoro Glacier and spend most of the day trekking on the moraine of the glaciers to reach Khorburse camp (3,795 meters) for the night stay. Trekking on Baltoro glacier requires a good sense of balance and some trekking experience on ice and snow. A spectacular trekking day on the mixed terrain of Baltoro Glacier and arrive at Khoburtse campsite, which offers a breathtaking view of Trango tower and Uli Bhiao peaks.
The following day, you will continue your K2 Concordia trek on Baltoro glacier to the Urdukas camp (3,900 meters). Urdukas Campsite is beautifully placed a hundred meters above Baltoro Glaciers, built by the men of Abruzzi during their K2 Expedition in 1909. Now you are getting closer to your ultimate destination Concordia and K2 basecamp in the heart of the Karakoram mountain range. You will have a free day at Urdukas to get acclimatised and rest.
After the acclimatisation day at Urdukas, follow Baltoro Glacier eastwards and continue trekking on Baltoro Glacier to arrive at Goro campsite. Goro camp (4,295 meters) is a widely spread campsite on Baltoro glacier with a sensational view of Masherbrum (7,821 m) and gashebrum IV (7,925 meters). Tonight you will sleep on the surface of the glaciers, so make sure to put on many layers of clothes to keep yourself warm in your sleeping bag. Wake up with a spectacular view of Gasherbrum IV, which stands at the head of Baltoro Glacier like a beacon guiding you to Concordia. After a full day of trekking, you will finally arrive at Concordia (4,500 meters), the junction point of Baltoro and Godwin-Austen Glaciers. The combination of Baltoro and Godwin-Austin Glaciers is a large piece of ice outside the Polar region. Galen Rowell has described Concordia as the heart of the Karakoram and the Thorne room of the mountain gods in his book.
From Concordia, you will have a closeup view of K2 (8,611 meters), Broad Peak (8,051 meters),Gasherbrum I-II (8,035 meters), and many other famous Karakoram peaks. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset view over these Karakoram giants and the sensational environment of Concordia. You will have two days at Concordia to enjoy the mountain scenery. An optional circuit trek to Broad Peak basecamp, Gilkey Memorial, and K2 base camp is available.
After visiting Concordia and K2 basecamp, you will return towards Islamabad by following the same itinerary backwards. Trekking down the Baltoro glacier is as spectacular as it was on the way up. You will have a beautiful view of Trango Towers ahead of you and K2 in the backdrop. Night stay at Goro camp and next day continue Treking towards Khorburse camp. From here onwards, you will start noticing the decrease in the Altitude, and there is more oxygen in the air. Continue descending on Baltoro glacier until you arrive at Jhola camp. Once you are off the glacier, walking along the Braldu River is smoother, and within no time, you will arrive in Johla. Spend the last evening with your porters in Johla and the next day drive to Skardu via Askole. Askole to Skardu is 7 hours drive. Night stay in Skardu, and the following morning take a spectacular Mountain View flight back to Islamabad. In case of flight cancellations, you will travel on the Karakoram Highway. You will spend one night in Islamabad, and the following morning we will transfer you to Islamabad airport for your flight back home.
