Khosar Gang, also known as Koser Gunge or “Ice Pumpkin” in the local Balti language, is a prominent peak in Pakistan’s Shigar Valley within the Karakoram range. Its official elevation is listed as 6,400 meters, though climbers often report it to be approximately 6,040 meters.
Situated on the left bank of the Braldo River near Sildi/Kashmal Village, Khosar Gang’s base camp is at 3,800 meters and is accessible from Skardu, located 45 kilometers away. The approach involves a trek from Sildi Village, making it relatively accessible for climbers.
Khosar Gang has gained popularity among climbers of varying skill levels due to its less technical routes and suitability for acclimatization. Notable ascents include:
February 2022: Renowned climber Denis Urubko achieved the first winter summit of Khosar Gang, marking a significant milestone in the mountain’s climbing history
April 2022: Climbers Shane Roche, William Gawron, and Joseph Haynes attempted the first spring summit. However, their expedition was unsuccessful due to high avalanche risk.
The optimal climbing season for Khosar Gang is from June to October, with July being particularly favorable. During this period, climbers can expect more stable weather conditions, enhancing safety and the overall experience.
